Trinity's Mission
and Ministry Information
"...and you will be my
witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and
Samaria and to the ends of the earth." Acts
1:8

Trinity is a congregation that sees
itself as a world mission station. We conduct a campus
ministry to students of Drake University and other Des
Moines colleges. Our congregation includes people of
African, Southeast Asian, European-American and Hispanic
heritage; and we conduct services each Sunday in three
languages - English, Lao and Nuer. As the Lord has opened
new doors to us for mission outreach, He has led us into a
global view of ministry, together with a deeper awareness
and appreciation of the many individuals and congregations
who work with us in Christ's Mission in the United States
and in all parts of the world.
As we reach out to a highly diverse urban
community, we have developed a multifaceted ministry which
includes a food pantry, ESL and literacy classes, a large
summer education program for children and adults, and a
variety of ministries directed to the needs of newly arrived
immigrants. But our total ministry is shaped by the firm
conviction that the deepest need of every human being is to
hear the Good News that Christ Jesus came into the world to
save sinners. The open declaration of this marvelous truth
is the foundation of our mission strategy.
Trinity Lutheran Church is living
proof of the power of the Holy Spirit to break through all
barriers of race and nationality, language and culture. We
look forward to communicating with others who share our
enthusiasm for this kind of ministry!
Why We
Exist:
It is the will of our Lord Jesus Christ
that his disciples should preach the Gospel to the whole
world (Mark 16:16; Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8). That
Christ's mission for His Church might be carried out
according to his will, He has commanded that Christians
unite in worship (Hebrews 10:24-25), practice fellowship
with one another, and serve the needs of all people in
Christian love (Ephesians 4:7-16; Mark 10:42-44; John 13:35;
Galatians 6:10). Since Christians are also to administer the
Office of the Keys as His Church (John 20:21-23; Matthew
8:5-20) and to maintain decency and order (I Corinthians
14:40) in the church, therefore we, a number of Lutheran
Christians have united together and joined together
worshiping joyfully in Word and Sacrament in our
congregation known as:
Trinity Lutheran
Church!
Æ
Our Confessional
Heritage:
We accept and acknowledge all the
canonical books of the Old and New Testament as the verbally
inspired, inerrant Word of God, and the only divine rule of
faith and life. We also accept the Three Ecumenical Symbols:
the Apostles
Creed, the
Nicene Creed, and the
Athanasian
Creed, together with the
Symbolical Books of the Evangelical Lutheran Church
contained in the Book
of Concord: The Augsburg
Confession, The Apology of the Augsburg Confession, The
Smalcald Articles, Luther's Large Catechism, Luther's Small
Catechism, and The Formula of Concord as a true and sound
exposition of Christian faith taken from and in agreement
with the Holy Scriptures.
From Luther's Small Catechism:
The
Three Articles of the Apostle's
Creed.
Our Mission
Statement:
Trinity Lutheran Church has been directed
and empowered by our Lord Jesus Christ to actively proclaim
the Good News of God's love and forgiveness; to the end that
they come to know, love and proclaim Christ as their Savior
and Lord, and joyfully conform their entire lives to the
Christian life.
