The common annual gun death count ranged from nearly 3 per 100,000 in Hawaii to 18 per 100,000 in Louisiana. Hawaii experienced 16 gun laws and regulations, and along with NJ, New Massachusetts and York was among states with the most laws and regulations and fewest deaths. Claims with the fewest laws and regulations & most deaths included Alaska, Kentucky, Oklahoma and Louisiana. But there have been outliers: South Dakota, for instance, had just two guns laws and regulations but few deaths. Editorial writer Dr. Garen Wintemute, director the Violence Prevention Research Program at the University of California, Davis, said the study doesn’t answer which laws, if any, work.
